Contributing to government call for evidence

Updated: Jan 2

In October 2024, the government introduced the Employment Rights Bill, which lays plans for a range of improvement to workers' rights. Nine members of Homecare Workers' Group put their initial reactions together for this blog post.

Researchers from the Centre for Care (based at the University of Sheffield) then approached us to see if any our our members would be prepared to contribute to a formal submission they were putting together in response to a government call for evidence about the bill.

In December, a small group of our members did just that. On the basis that individual contributions would be anonymised, we provided the research team with first-hand accounts of some of the challenges the Employment Rights Bill seeks to address, as well as highlighting areas of the bill that could do with clarification in respect of domiciliary care workers.

Here is the final submission, published with Centre for Care's permission:

We're pleased to have put our experiences to good use here, and grateful to the team at Centre for Care for engaging us in their work.
